Six of the Best New Openings in London for February

Here are my six new openings in London including pasta classics, South Indian flavours and a new British menu with a view of London!

Emilia’s Crafted Pasta, Aldgate

Opened – 4th February 2019
Rating – 4.5/5
Price – £

What’s better than a nice warming bowl of pasta on a chilled day – or a sunny day for that matter. Emilia’s Crafted Pasta had a great start to their London life last year in St Katherines Dock and have opened their second place by Aldgate offering the same menu at a very reasonable price. Expect to see a range of fresh pastas including my favourite, their slow-cooked bologonse with pappardelle. If you like the food so much, Emilia’s also offer a pasta masterclass so you can become a pasta expert as well. One to try for all pasta lovers in London!

As the days are getting sunnier ☀ and warmer, we are all in need of a creamy carbonara 😋 Although the origins of this classic dish are hazy 🧐, with carbonaro translating as charcoal burner, it is believed that the lush creaminess of this filling dish fuelled hungry workers 😋 … This recipe was developed during our founder’s travels across Italy 🇮🇹. Whilst couch surfing, and staying with five students from different parts of Italy, each showed their own way of making a carbonara and explained why it was the right way to make it 🤩 … Intrigued and fascinated by all the different variations, they discussed things and tasted many more times until the Emilia’s recipe was created, the North Italian style where the full egg 🍳 is used 😋 … Carbonara represents the simplicity of Italian food and how hard it can be to get an absolutely perfect taste ❤ … How do you make your carbonara at home – the North or South Italian way? 🤔 … #emiliasishome #pastaislove #pastaislife #carbfeast #crafted #craftedpasta #organic #handmade #emiliaspasta #towerhill #towerbridge #stKats #italian #italianfood #freshpasta #pasta #pastapasta #recipe #salmon #salmoncarbonara #carbonara #special #aliestreet #aldgate

Recently opened high-end hotel in London, Vintry and Mercer, their Vintry Restaurant inside is getting a lot of attention. Their menu has an Eastern influence so expect Asian flavours in dishes such as their sweet soy braised beef ribs, chicken kariage steamed buns and teriyaki sea trout. Vintry also offers a more British brunch menu including staple classics as a Full English, eggs and avocado and black pudding and fried eggs for those feeling adventurous.

Ooty, Marylebone

Opened – 14th February 2019
Rating – 4.4/5

Move over Sherlock, we have a new rival who could make Baker Street as equally famous. Ooty has come to London and offers diner’s a two-tiered option of excellent Indian flavours in their restaurant and tasty cocktails in their ‘Ooty Club’ below the restaurant. Expect strong bold South Indian flavours with meat, vegetarian and seafood options including dishes such as their Keralan Lime Lobster, Lamb Shank Koora and Fennel Paneer. This will set you back more for your wallet than most places with mains ranging from £18 – £33 but worth it as a pay day treat.

Gloria, Shoreditch

Opened – 22nd February
Rating – 4.5/5
Price – ££

France’s famous Big Mamma Group have landed in Shoreditch for their first UK opening with tasty Italian flavours. Offering a menu from breakfast to brunch to dinner and a cocktail list to match throughout, expect a throwback with 1960s décor but modern Italian dishes such including a ten – yes 10! – layer lasagne, black truffle pappardelle and a lobster risotto for two to share (will set you back £60). I mentioned their cocktail menu and Gloria will also have a bar underneath the restaurant opened till 2am at the weekend so this could be your next best Saturday night destination in London.

Da Terra, Bethnal Green

Opened – 23rd January 2019
Rating – 4.8/5
Price – £££

A new wonder in East London and more specifically in Bethnal Green’s Town Hall Hotel. One I missed at the end of January to include in last month’s article was the second new restaurant in the Town Hall Hotel which see’s Da Terra open who’s menu is heavily influenced from Latin America. The slight twist here is that they only serve tasting menus but the best thing is that it’s 9 courses so ideal for a Saturday date night.

Vivi, Trafalgar Square

Opened – 16th February
Rating – 4.2/5
Price – ££

Good food and good views, what more could you need? Vivi has opened at the iconic Centrepoint building in London and has a traditional British menu and flavours from their breakfast to the dinner menu – look out for their signature Chicken Kiev dish. Vivi also offer an Afternoon Tea menu ideal for a Sunday treat costing around £30 per person with champagne an added extra. If you’re in Central and sick of queues at the standard chain restaurants, head to Vivi to dine with a view.
