6 New Openings in December across London

The last article of 2018 and it’s a case of last new openings in London for the year but first ones to try!

6 new places to try in London that have opened in the last month from Vegan to Asian to Pastry!

Kalifornia Kitchen, Fitzrovia
Rating – 4.4/5.0

Opened – November 2018

Another vegan restaurant has come to London whose menu is plant-based and plastic free so a real environmental plus. Also, their food is pretty tasty. Offering both a breakfast and all-day menu, dishes are packed full of flavour and colour from their breakfast burrito wrap to their rainbow bowl salad. A range of fresh smoothies and teas – and not forgetting their Matcha cheesecake – accompany their mid-range priced menu. If you’re looking for something healthy and new, then give Kalifornia Kitchen a try.

CoCo Ichibanya, Leicester Square
Rating – 4.6/5

Opened – 12th December

It has finally arrived in London – Japan’s most popular curry house is now open for business and can be found right by Leicester Square station. For those katsu-curry lovers across the capital, this will be great news to them and even for those that need to be converted. CoCo Ichibanya have over 1000 restaurants across Japan and is hailed as a ‘cheap eat’ for curry and rice but you can expect to find the prices more mid-range in London, around £12-14 for a plate. With choices from chicken to pork to fish katsu – and the option of an omelette on top – on a bed of Japanese curry and rice, this is one to try in January.

Kutir, Sloane Square
Rating – 4.8/5

Opened – 22nd November

One that opened at the end of November but I had to include and couldn’t leave out. Renowned chef Rohit Ghai who was head chef at Gymkhana and earnt a Michelin star at Jamayar has opened his first restaurant in Chelsea. Specialising in high-end Indian cuisine has both an a la carte and set menu to choose from with a ‘small plate’ style which is ideal for sharing including meat and vegetarian dishes. With high-end specialties you can expect higher prices than what you’ll find in Brick Lane for a Friday night curry but knowing how good Rohit Ghai is, I have no doubt it will be worth it.

Lost Boys Pizza, Camden
Rating – 4.9/5

Opened – December 2018

Time for something different – vampire themed pizza? This is the latest pizza joint which has opened in Camden offering charcoal based-pizza such as ‘Fangs for the Memories’ are as tasty as strange as they sound! With pizza’s costing no more than £10, this is a new cheap-eat venue for pizza and cocktails ideal to start a Friday night out. Their ‘Cheesecake to Die For’ is – as by the name – not one to be missed!

Cakes & Bubbles, Soho
Rating – 4.4

Opened – 8th November 2018

Another one from November but something sweet to end on. Cakes & Bubbles is what you can imagine from the name – high-end cakes and champagnes to pair. Voted the world’s best pastry chef, Albert Adria has brought Cakes & Bubbles to Hotel Café Royal after a successful pop-up in 2016. This is his first permanent restaurant outside of Spain and based upon the cheesecake alone, London should hope he doesn’t plan to leave anytime soon. If you’re wanting to treat yourself at the weekend after a tough week at work, then head to Café Royal for a glass of bubbles and a plate of sweet goodness.

Now for a repeat…

Farzi Café, Piccadilly Circus
Rating – 4.9/5.0

Opened – 26th December (Soft Launch until 3rd January 2019)

I have been eagerly anticipating their opening date after mentioning them in a previous article in October this year. Farzi Café has achieved great success abroad and are now opening their first European restaurant in London. Co-founder Zorawar Kalra (who is also a judge on Masterchef India) aims to bring a menu offering traditional and not-so traditional Indian food on small plates perfect for group sharing. With a number of recent great new additions to London bringing new and exciting menu’s from the East, I’m looking forward to joining them in the New Year.
