Six of the best new openings in London from February 2020 including some great street food going permanent!
It's a strange time right now with restaurants on lock-down and thoughts with all those working in the food and hospitality sector – fingers crossed this time passes soon! Here's a list though of six new openings which came to London before all this started in February 2020 with a mix of brand new London restaurants to some of my favourites where they've opened another site!
Hoppers, Kings Cross
Rating – 4.5/5
Price – £££
One of my all-time favourite restaurants in London has opened their third branch by Kings Cross which in recent years has become a go to foodie spot for great food. If you haven’t been to Hoppers then this is an ideal chance to fix that wrong. Their Sri Lankan food is incredible – from hoppers to dosa’s to their bone marrow which is a must order. My recommendation would be to do their Hoppers Feast – £35pp taster menu which gives you a sample of their great menu. I’m definitely looking forward to trying their new site as another reason for a visit to Hoppers.
Wingshack, Farringdon
Rating – 4.2/5
Price – ££
Anyone for tasty burgers and delicious chicken wings? Thought so, then Wingshack’s latest new opening is the place to go to. I recently went to try out their food and was blown away by how good their buffalo sauce was so after trying I made sure I had it on the tenders, burger and wings! However, it’s not all about the meat as their Vegan Jackfruit Wings were so good and inventive, I would happily have these over chicken wings again when I next go back! Also huge shout for their Mac n Cheese as well which hit the spot. You can order for take in or out but for this great tasting comfort food, you won’t be disappointed!
Padella, Shoreditch
Rating – 4.5/5
Price – ££
Another one of London’s favourite restaurants has opened another site in London, this time the pasta kings Padella have their newest opening in Shoreditch. If you haven’t been to Padella yet you surely would have heard of two things – the queues to get in and how good their pasta is. Fortunately you can now queue virtually to avoid the cold outside and either way, it’s worth the wait. Padella offer a daily changing menu with fresh pasta to order and a great wine list to go with it. One to tick off the ‘London restaurant list’ if you haven’t been yet.
The Big Melt, Gabriel’s Wharf
Rating – 4.8/5
Price – £
For those that have been to Canopy Market, you would have likely seen The Big Melt there over the years but now they have their first permanent London base at Gabriel’s Wharf on Southbank. Think delicious grilled cheese or toasties (whatever your naming preference) with your choice of style, my advice is to go for their Pizza Melt with caramlised onions which was delicious. However, they also do a ‘Mac n Cheese’ melt which I can’t wait to go back and try!
Chuku’s, Islington
Rating – 4.9/5
Price – ££
Welcome to London its first Nigerian tapas restaurant which has resulted in a huge buzz and demand for their delicious looking menu. With a mix of vegan, meat and seafood options, their menu is for all and for someone who hasn’t tried many Nigerian dishes, I’m excited about this new restaurant coming to London. With small plates which are ideal to share between a group of friends, Chuku’s is definitely one for a mid-week catch up after work.
The Patate, Kentish Town
Rating – 4.9/5
Price – £
If you haven’t tried The Patate across various food markets in London then you’ve missed out on trying their signature Beef Bourguignon Cheeseburger but luckily they have now opened their first permanent base in London at Kentish Town. Their French inspired burger is one of a kind in London and has to be tried, especially for those burger lovers in London.
