6 New Places to Try This July

With the sun continuing to shine, here are six new openings to try this month across London.

Once again, a real mix of places to try across London this month including a new cocktail bar in Soho which is not to miss out on. A few are open for business now and a couple to watch out for who are opening later this month!

Yen Burger, Borough
Rating – TBC

Opening – Late July 2018

One that I am particularly looking forward to, mainly as I work close by so I’ll be heading down one lunchtime soon. Brand new project from Yen Nguyen, a new burger concept for an Eastern take on a Western classic, a selection of patty’s including wagyu beef will be inside a Bread Ahead Bakery bun (I mentioned Bread Ahead as my favourite bakery in Borough in a previous article so I’m very happy about this. Yen Burger will hopefully be ready for business later this month with a cocktail menu to offer as well, I’ll keep checking for when I can try this place out.

Bancone, Covent Garden
Rating – 4.6

Opened – June 2018

What is better than a fresh tasty bowl of pasta during summer? Then again, or winter for that reason. Anyway, Bancone has opened in Covent Garden last month and offer a wide range of pasta’s with a selection of different meats from duck ravioli to 10 hour slow cooked oxtail ragu with pappardelle. An extensive wine and cocktail list on offer alongside their intriguing Chilled Gianduja Chocolate Risotto desert, Bancone is one to stop in and try when next in Covent Garden.

Neptune, Russell Square
Rating – 4.2

Opened – May 2018

I mean again, at summer, what’s better than some tasty seafood? Neptune has been opened a couple of months in London now but one I had to mention. More high-end on the pricing range, Neptune offer a diverse menu from caviar to a seafood platter for two including oysters, spider crab and scallops. If you aren’t looking to break the bank then their set lunch menu of two courses for £20 is very reasonable and plenty of choices on offer. As one of the new seafood places to go, Neptune is one to keep in mind.

Old Chang Kee, Covent Garden
Rating – 4.6

Opened – June 2018

I’ve been on the lookout for this one for the last couple of months so I’m glad to hear that Old Chang Kee have finally arrived in London. Straight from Singapore, this is their first venture into Europe and have (luckily for us) chosen London as their first destination. Old Chang Kee have been running for over 60 years and their signature ‘curry puffs’ (almost a cross between a Cornish Pasty and a Indian Samosa – but better) will be available for around £3 which is an absolute steal. If you’re just wanting a savoury snack in Covent Garden, go and find Old Chang Kee.

Gazelle, Mayfair
Opens – July 2018

One of the most talked about openings this month, Gazelle comes to Mayfair and is perfectly located. Gazelle mixes high-class food and cocktails led by drinks expert Tony Conigliaro and chef Rob Roy-Cameron offers a modern European menu you won’t want to miss out on. Spread across two floors, Gazelle will be open for business from breakfast to late night drinks making it an ideal venue for a variety of occasions.

Viet Lounge, Soho
Rating – 4.2

Opened – June 2018

An extra one to be aware of this month is Viet Lounge which has opened on the 3rd floor above Viet Food as their new cocktail bar venture. Viet Lounge offer an extensive innovative cocktail menu list full of unique flavours and mixes that are ideal for a post-work drink. A tapas style food menu of Vietnamese offerings available also is not to be missed out on – my favourite was their Bang Bang Prawns! Head to Viet Lounge if you’re looking for somewhere to relax away from the hustle of Soho and a decent drink.
