If you’re looking for a fun and relaxed evening with friends in North London head to The Vine …

We can usually be found in the eateries around Central, South & West London. So a mid – week shuffling up to North London was something a little different for us. We weren’t sure what to expect, and upon arrival were charmed by the grand Edwardian building which has recently gone through a complete re-furb and change in menu.

A family friendly gastropub, at The Vine you can enjoy a Sunday Roast or it could equally be a perfect beer pit- stop when out walking the dog. The pub is dog friendly but also has outdoor seating for the eagerly awaited warmer weather.

During the week you get a slightly different vibe, with the re – branded concept centred around Shuffle, Bites & Booze. The Vine is the proud owner of the first shuffle boards in a North London pub. A great activity with a group and way to let off some steam after a long day in the office!

With Soul and Motown tunes blasting in the background, get a shuffle on to the Gin Bar and enjoy as many cocktail combos as you wish with a selection of light bites.

The menu has a range of options on offer. The sharing plates provide a good way of enjoying the ‘picky food bites’ whilst having a game on the shuffle boards. We loved the pulled pork tostadas for starters with pink onion – they definitely tasted as good as they looked!

I couldn’t decide between the Bavette steak or Burger, as both had been recommend and sounded amazing. Lucky for me, my friend was facing the same conundrum so we struck a deal and shared the mains – Win: Win! 😃

The double cheeseburger was perfectly pink and served with a signature sauce; a Blueberry BBQ dip which had a tangy flavour and worked well with the meatiness of the burger.

The Bavette steak was our favourite dish, served with a pulled beef brisket croquette, chimichurri and some gravy on the side (being Northern, I like gravy on everything, and this certainly had a great flavour!) The steak was perfectly cooked and complimented by the wine we were recommended.

The pub is currently hosting an amazing pop up Gin Bar on site. With an endless variety of Gins on offer and cocktails to enjoy, starting at a bargain £5.00. A selection of craft beers are also available on draft.

We were spoilt for choice by the drink options but as it was a school night, opted for something civilised and enjoyed a lovely bottle of Portuguese House red; Touro Proto which complimented the food perfectly. I would never have guessed it was a House wine, the care and attention that has been taken to pair wine with the dishes clearly shows. I will now think twice before snubbing a house wine!
