Do you go loco over tacos or find yourself craving quesadillas? Here’s my round up of the top places to eat Mexican food in London.
Having just booked a plane ticket to explore Mexico I was inspired to scour London for the best Mexican food the city has to offer. A humungous country means a hugely varied scene and whittling the options down to just 5 was an almost impossible task. I wanted to include diverse options that range from budget to high-end, so everyone has the opportunity to sample this delicious cuisine.
D/F Mexico is the younger, cooler and more laid back sibling of Wahaca. With a slightly confusing self service style and no reservation option, get there for their ‘Mex Mondays’ for half price tacos. Leaning slightly towards a cross between a taqueria and a diner; they serve banging burgers, beautiful burritos and fresh rice bowls. Wash it all down with a cooling Passion Fruit Margarita.
Most people would avoid stepping into a seedy sex shop in Soho, but when it leads to the entrance of a dimly lit cellar serving innovative Mexican street food, you gotta do what you gotta do. La Bodega Negra has two locations, but the cellar location has the most vibey and raucous atmosphere; visit on the weekend and see for yourself.
From humble beginnings at a roadside car park in Hackney, to owning two taquerias in both Soho and Clerkenwell, Breddos Tacos have catapulted to fame amongst London’s foodies. Owing all their glory to their fantastic tacos, try their meaty Carne Asada or nourishing veggie Black Bean option.
Beginning life as a street food stall (and still going strong at the Shoreditch street food hub, Dinerama), they are now set up as residents at East London pub, The Spread Eagle. Unique to the food scene in London, Club Mexicana serves amazing 100% Vegan Mexican food. I love their super tasty Pulled Jackfruit Carnita taco and Red Hot Cauliflower Bites.

From the guys who brought London the Spanish gem, Barrafina, El Pastor presents their first foray into Mexican fare and, boy … la comida es bueno. A bright and modern interior sets the scene for some of the freshest and tastiest Mexican food in London. Famed for their authenticity and Mexican imported ingredients, expect Oaxaca cheese quesadillas and Short Rib sharing plates.
