Imperial Treasure: A Stellar Set Lunch

If you’re nearby on a weekday at lunchtime, don’t miss this.

From Monday to Friday, 12–3pm, Imperial China offers a set lunch menu for £38 per person. And let me tell you, after they were kind enough to have me visit later after work to review it, I'm extremely jealous of people who work nearby.

I had the pleasure of taking the biggest noodle fan I know – my mum – to @imperialtreasureuk yesterday evening, where we sampled their set lunch menu. We both went for the vegetarian version, although you can also opt for the meat version at the same price of £38pp (which comes with prawn soup, roast pork and fried rice dishes). And you know what? It was bloody incredible. . Especially the vegetarian mock duck with pancakes, which was made out of the crispest, flakiest fried tofu. My mum and I are huge roast duck addicts in general, and we were blown away by the veggie version. The truffle oil noodles were quite strongly-truffled – I'm not the biggest truffleholic so it was a little wasted on me – but truffle lovers will love it. As for dessert, we enjoyed a red date sticky cake (you can see how it was lovingly steamed layer by layer), and a deep fried sesame sticky rice ball filled with a thick, smooth custard. . You really get what you pay for here in terms of food quality, setting and service, and I really mean it. The staff were really kind and attentive to everyone dining there, and they really knew their stuff when it came to what was on the menu – from the wines to the dishes themselves. As for the menu, a little pricey? Yes. Worth every penny? Absolutely. . Thank you Imperial Treasure team (and thank you for taking the trouble to let me try the lunch menu later on in the day!). I'm already planning to visit again for a special occasion… . {Invited / Complimentary} . . . . . #chinesefood #vegetarianfood #vegetarianlondon #dimsum #noodlebowl #truffleoil #noodlepull #noodleporn #asianfoodporn #asianfoodie #hotandsoursoup #spicyfood #noodlelover #chopsticks #londonfoodporn #londonfoodies #foodiesunite #londonfoodgram #londonfoodblogger #londonfoodblog #foodwriter #foodphotography #foodiepics #tastelondon #buzzfeast #eatmunchies #toplondonrestaurants #lefooding

I took the biggest noodle fan I know with me – my mum – for the review. We both went for the vegetarian version, although you can also opt for the meat version at the same price – which comes with prawn soup, roast pork and fried rice dishes.

It was amazing.

The hot and sour soup started us off, which was pleasantly warming and flavourful. Next up… some amazing vegetarian wizardry. We were most impressed with the vegetarian mock duck with pancakes, which was made out of the crispest, flakiest fried tofu. My mum and I are huge roast duck addicts in general, and we were blown away by the veggie version. The accompanying spring rolls were also superbly crisp and generously-filled.

The truffle oil noodles that followed were quite strongly-truffled – strong and punchy. I'm not the biggest truffleholic so it was a little wasted on me. But truffle lovers will love it. I absolutely loved the spicy mapo aubergine and tofu, which had just a hint of the numbing peppercorn spice that I love about Sichuanese cuisine. And the stir-fried vegetables had a hint of wok-hei char that made them seriously moreish.

As for dessert, we enjoyed a red date sticky cake (you can see how it was lovingly steamed layer by layer), and a deep-fried sesame sticky rice ball filled with a thick, smooth custard. Both delicious and just the right amount to sweeten the palate without going overboard.
